Double Dutch Fingering

Our pride and joy! We are so happy to have a characteristic 100% Dutch yarn in our collection, sustainably sourced from local Dutch farms and naturally hand-dyed in the Netherlands. The Texelaar is a breed that is valued as one of the only few Dutch heritage sheepbreeds.  We have dyed it in a vibrant palette reflecting the Dutch seascape, the landscape and its people: unpretentious, yet explorative and artistic.

This yarn is robust, durable and excellent for textural knit-and-purl patterns and cabling and shows a very clear stitch definition. It will give your creating hands a lovely rustic and textural feel to work with whilst it is not itchy and free from kemp-hairs. But no, it's not the softest yarn.
As one of our most rustic yarns, it is very hard-wearing, especially suitable for jumpers, cardigans outerwear and textural knits. But when knit at a loose gauge it can also be used for interesting colour work and lacy shawls. Let it's texture inspire you to play and create!

Texeler wool, especially when dyed with Indigo, is traditionally used to knit the Dutch Guernsey’s or Gansey’s (fishermen’s jumpers) that are being rediscoverd by the knitting-world and fashion industry. Nowadays this wool is mostly used to create blankets, but at The Dutch Yarn Barn we aim to get this authentic and characterful yarn back on the needles and hooks of the environmentally conscious crafter.
